Garment Details
- Material: Typically crafted from lightweight, durable fabrics like polyester (often 100% or blended with 10-20% elastane/spandex for stretch). Many use ripstop or microfiber polyester for tear resistance and four-way stretch for flexibility. Some include moisture-wicking properties to keep fighters dry.
- Design & Fit:
- Length: Mid-thigh cut (never below the knee) to maximize range of motion and prevent grabbing during grappling. Common lengths range from 6-8 inches inseam.
- Cut: Gladiator-style with side slits or high-split designs for leg mobility, especially for high kicks or sprawls. Some grappling shorts are shorter and tighter (e.g., Vale Tudo style).
- Closure: Velcro waistbands with internal drawstrings or hook-and-loop straps for a secure fit. Advanced models may use elastic waistbands or no Velcro for smoother transitions and comfort.
- No Pockets/Zippers: Eliminates snagging risks during grappling.
